Adventure Island 4 Plus

This is a profit-free project that aims to remake the original Adventure Island 4 NES game, with many Quality-of-Life improvements.

First of all, the original game was never officially released internationally, although several unofficial rom translations exist. It was only ever released in Japan, and is known there as Takahashi Meijin no Bouken Jima 4 (literally Master Takahashi's Adventure Island 4).

While the original game is for NES console, this is a PC/Windows game, made completely in Unreal Engine 4. It can be easily ported to platforms like Switch, XBox X Series, PS5, as well as Mobile Platforms like Android and iOS, but the version 1.0 only supports Windows. Version 1.1, once completed, will add Linux, OSX, Android and iOS support, and as for the rest - it's not set in stone yet, and will depend on how popular the game will become.

It's important to note that the original license holder for the title and franchise is Hudson Soft, so I do not stand to gain any monetary benefit from distributing this game. It's just a passion project that I also used as a personal playground for deep learning of Unreal Engine's ins and outs.

While the game is heavily based on Adventure Island 4, it also contains some references to 3 of it's prequels, mainly in music form. Most of the game's mechanics, both the original and the new ones, are now properly explained to the player where it makes sense. As for some of the major changes in the remake, compared to the NES original ...

One of the main features of the game is the now increased difficulty - you will find more enemies, tougher Mini-Bosses and Bosses, and generally more obstacles on your way to the game's completion. However, to compensate for this new difficulty, Dino-Pets now have their own Health Meter, just like Main Character - they start with 1 heart which makes them work just like in the original; however, most of the bonus rooms throughout the game's world now hold new heart power-ups dedicated to this new feature. Some of them are very easy to get, but as for the others - they have certain condition that needs to be met! Try to get them all!

Another new feature is the Saving mechanics - now you don't need Passwords, you start the game in one of the 3 Slots, and they are used for further saving and loading. However! First you need to find the special item that enables the saving itself!

Last but now least, now you can warp between Save Points! And of course, you need to find yet another item for this to work! Good luck finding it out!
